Creative Victoria are now seeking views and ideas from the sector to inform their next four-year creative industries strategy. If you’re based in Victoria and care about the future of the arts, this one is for you. This is a great opportunity for us to collectively put forward what we think is going to be important for the arts to prioritise over the coming years.
Next Wave is passionate about creating the conditions for artists to thrive. Here is what we’re hoping the Government will take on board as they put together their strategy:
Investing in artist learning is key to a rigorous, robust, inspiring and inclusive artistic ecology.
Investing in the development of new work contributes to a sustainable sector and positive social change.
Prioritising cultural safety and inclusion programs and initiatives ensures that our conversations are rich, diverse and open to all.
Providing greater support to the Victorian Festival sector will grow audiences, increase accessibility and sector capacity.

- Head to a consultation workshop if you’re in Melbourne, or host your own
The strategy will seek to grow the $31 billion creative and cultural economy, strengthen and fortify Victoria’s creative industries and jobs, and further Victoria’s standing as a place where creativity thrives and where everyone has opportunities for creative expression, cultural participation and to pursue creative careers.
Next Wave welcomes the four guiding principles underpinning Create Victoria’s approach: First Peoples first, Whole of state, Whole of ecosystem, All voices welcome. As an organisation, we are continuously pushing the boundaries of what is artistically and organisationally possible. We believe in an arts sector that is centered on openness and generosity. Where artists and their communities are connected to learning opportunities, presentation opportunities, industry exposure, touring and community building.
